Chevalier T. U. Kuruvilla  ·  1936–2026

A Life of Service

Born on 13 September 1936 at Oonjappara, Kothamangalam, Kerala, to Uthuppu and Mariyam, Thombrayil Uthup Kuruvilla devoted his remarkable life to public service, agriculture, and the Church.

Twice elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Kothamangalam constituency (2006 & 2011) and appointed Minister for Public Works, he was equally distinguished as Lay Secretary of the Syriac Orthodox Church for many years.

Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, honoured him with the Chevalier title, Mor Aphrem Medal, and Commander title for his contributions to Society and Church. South Eastern University, London, conferred upon him an honorary DLitt.
